Meet Beth, our incredible Art teacher who fashions her art classes so that everyone ‘can do’ art.
Beth’s teaching career spans almost 50 years, and she has been teaching at Makor Hatikvah for the past 20 years. Her amazing teaching style and beautiful art projects have been guided by the scripture in Ecclesiastes 9:10 that says, “whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” She takes this verse and translates it into action for the children so that they learn that if they put their best effort into their work, they will succeed and create something that they can be proud of.
She begins each year with the students drawing self-portraits. The students learn that God made faces in a special way – that there is a planned place where everything goes and belongs, a place where things “go together”. She teaches them that for the most part, all faces have features that are the same, yet at the same time, every face is different. The children’s self-portraits show individuality where some things are the same and some are different.
As God’s plan for our faces, there is a place where everything was meant to be, a place where everything belongs and fits together. That is the hope that we have for every student in Makor HaTikvah, that they find their “can do” place, succeed, be happy, and be proud of their accomplishments.
